Hello Expressive Friends,
I know you are enjoying these lazy dazy summer days. And a good time
to be lazy is mid-afternoon. A power nap of 20 minutes improves thinking
and strengthens the heart. I also find it helpful to sprinkle the day
with creative breaks that include visual arts, gardening, pleasure reading,
birding, and walking. When I return to the work schedule, I come back
with fresh eyes and new insights. You might try working in two hour intervals
with 15 breaks and watch your enjoyment and attitude soar.
To escape the heat, use the time to clean up and clear out. I have been
doing this for the past three weeks and find it creative and energizing.
Now I have several bags of books, electronic equipment, and household
items to pass on. Since I love parties and get-togethers, I decided to
invite others to also take part in a “Great Give Away Party.”
We will all meet on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. for a potluck dinner and
to offer our give-aways. After the Great Give Away, everything left over
can be donated to charity. There will also be a time to share about the
environment and I’ll report on the No Outlying Landing Field campaign.
For details, see the calendar below.
As an expressive arts counselor, I use the arts, including humor, to help
you work through difficult times and to enrich your life. I also offer
monthly workshops at Health Touch in Durham. On Friday, Aug. 17 and I
present “Watercolor for Emotional Healing.” In May, I presented
this workshop in Rock Hill, SC and 25 participants had a wonderful time
exploring the healing power of color through improvisational humor and
color baths. They also used big brushes and the wash method to experience
their healing colors. No special artistic talent is necessary for my workshops.
See the registration details below.
In June, I vacationed in Colorado and New Mexico. I enjoyed mountain climbing,
camping out on the Colorado River, Santa Fe museums, and the wonderful
New Mexican food. My husband Micheal and I also camped out on our wilderness
land near Magdalena, NM . This year we got our well dug and are now are
planning to build an adobe cottage. This is an exciting time for us. Email
me about your adventures and explorations at Ruth@ArtsCanHeal.com.
Happy lazy daises,
Ruth Hamilton
E-Note tip: Try
it- You'll like It!
Research shows that you can make yourself more alert, reduce stress and
improve thinking with a 20 minute nap. This power napping gives you more
patience, less stress, better reaction time, increased learning, more
efficiency and better health. And this leaves you more time for expressive
arts!
